I have to tell you a funny story about my sister Norma and her two cats Popeye and Olive. The other night Norma awoke to an ungodly crying sound. When she got up to investigate she found that the cats had . . .
cornered this little mouse and they were playing with it and making it cry. So, Norma got out the seniors pick it up stick thingy. Of course I can’t remember the name of it. It’s called a seniors moment, no not the stick, I mean my mental state. Anyway back to the story, she went over and snatched up the mouse with the stick and brought it outside at 3 a.m. and released it to freedom.
Norma called me to tell me about her great hunting skills the next day. Then she called me again yesterday and told me she had another ordeal the night before but this time the mouse got away and under the fridge. So now it was a waiting game. When the mouse came out Norma and the two cats were chasing it and the mouse ran straight into her closet in her bedroom. Norma had it cornered and she took her trusty stick once again and grabbed the mouse. So far the score is Norma two, cats zero and by the way, the cats were very mad at Norma for taking away their toy.
I have been baking fruit cake and all kinds of different cookies. This week I made ginger cookies, jam jams, aunt Mary’s cookies, coconut macaroons, turtles, shortbread, oatmeal with walnuts and cranberries, and peanut butter cookies. Yes I’ve added them to my list of things to sell and I’m quite surprised that people enjoy getting the cookies along with their pies. I’ll also do any special orders. So, just give me a little time and I’ll do it if I can, that is.
This week I’m refinishing furniture and it’s turning out absolutely beautiful. I redid four chairs, a table with two leaves, and a console. It is so much fun taking a discarded piece of furniture and turning it into a useful, beautiful reusable piece of art. My next project is a captain’s chair and a rocking chair. Then later on I have some more tables I want to redo. I have been doing some work with the fusion paint but I’d like to leave the natural wood wherever possible. Every piece that is finished is truly remarkable.
I love refinishing furniture, painting, baking, cooking and gardening. I just like keeping busy. I’m always starting new projects and once I’ve mastered it I move onto a different project. Keep your mind active and creative.
New rules are coming out every day about who we can and cannot visit and what we should and shouldn’t do during the Christmas holidays. All I can say is keep your ears open to the media and whatever you hear today can be all changed tomorrow so just keep that in mind. It can be very confusing because if one person tells you one thing that they heard and then another person swears up and down it was a different way. Who do you believe?
At least the vaccine looks promising but that still won’t take us out of the woods for a long time yet. I know how lonely a person can get because I live alone and I don’t even have an animal anymore. So it is very lonely and that is why I do so many hobbies. It’s just to keep me from going completely crazy. You should hear me talking to my furniture. You would have to laugh or commit me.
Hope you all have a great week and stay safe and help out someone who is in need.
