The Way We Were:

Local News: Despite the inclement weather and slippery streets, there was a large congregation present in the United Church for the annual Vesper and candle-lighting service of the C.G.I.T. girls. 30 girls were in costume. Scriptures were read by Janey McDowell and Evelyn Warford, poems by Lorraine Elliot and Barbara Smith and four girls gave out the programmes and took up the offering. In the pageant service, the purpose of the C.G.I.T. to cherish health, seek truth, know God and serve others was emphasized by candle lighters, these being Nancy Hodgins, Rosemary Lunam, Anna Faye Stickler, Joan Smart, Betty Richardson and Norma Paul.

Every lodge was represented on Tuesday at a meeting of the Pontiac County Loyal Orange Lodge which was held at the Shawville Orange Hall with the county Master, Wendell Wilson in the chair. Delegates were present from Shawville, Knox, Bristol, Wyman, Starks Corners, Greermount, Otter Lake, Ladysmith, Charteris and Onslow.

Harold Steele, 62 of Quyon, is in the Community Hospital, suffering from shock and badly injured legs received when hit by a truck as he was crossing Norway Bay road, just off Highway No. 8. The truck involved is owned by Pontiac Transport Company.

Mr. Steele, a passenger in a car driven by John P. Balharrie, a former mayor of Ottawa, was enroute to Bristol. He had left the car which was parked at the foot of a hill, and was crossing the road when struck and hurled 20 feet. The truck had just come over the brow of the hill and it is believed the driver did not see Steele.
