On Wednesday morning, local bridge hounds got a chance to put their trick-taking abilities to the test to celebrate Canada 150 at the former Masonic Lodge in Shawville.
Organizer Lyse Lacourse said that she came up with the idea for the tournament as a way to keep up the spirit of this year’s celebrations.

“I suggested it [to] the committee and offered to lead it because we’ve had a lot of events all through the year and we wanted to keep the momentum going,” she said. “For October, we thought it would be good to have a bridge tournament.”
Lacourse said she learned the game as a teenager and enjoys the amount of strategy that the game entails.
“It’s not by chance,” she said. “It’s good for your brain.”
There were three tables of four players going for the duration of the event and in the end Diane Wilson walked away with the grand prize: a $25 gift certificate to Café 349.
“It’s an awesome turnout,” Lacourse said.
